Prime Minister of Haiti officially resigns

Port-Au-Prince, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry presented his resignation officially, local media reported on Tuesday.

In a pre-recorded message, Henry said, “The government I lead is leaving immediately upon the installation of the Transitional Presidential Council.”

“For more than a week, our country has been experiencing an increase in acts of violence against the population, murders, attacks on security forces, systematic looting, destruction of public and private buildings,” Henry commented.

“I am sad and outraged by the actions, and the government that I lead cannot remain insensitive to this situation, and as I have always said, no sacrifice is too great for our country.”

“The government I lead is leaving immediately after the Council is installed, and will continue to settle day-to-day affairs until a prime minister is appointed,” announced Henry as quoted by Le Nouvelliste.

According to Ariel Henry, Haiti needs peace, stability, sustainable development and the reconstruction of its democratic institutions.

He called on the population to remain calm and contribute to the establishment of peace and stability in the country “as soon as possible for the good of the nation.”

The prime minister’s decision comes hours after an agreement between political and civil society stockholders under the auspices of the Caribbean Community in order to establish a seven-member Presidential Council.
