The Minister of Health, Karina Rando, stated that “a very significant increase” in dengue cases is expected in Uruguay, after an “explosion” of infections in Argentina and Brazil.
“And we have seen that in this last week the number of cases has been high compared to other weeks, so we can expect a very significant increase,” she said.
She explained that most of the infections have been in young people, who have had no complications.
The last report from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), on March 9, reported 49 people infected by imported dengue and five native ones.
The MSP also reported one case of Zika and another of chikungunya.
