FAO values CELAC’s efforts to crack down hunger

Havana, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) The commitment against hunger and malnutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean advanced with the recent update of the CELAC plan, a United Nations expert deemed on Tuesday.

On March 1, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) reviewed and reaffirmed its Food Security, Nutrition and Hunger Eradication Plan for the 2024-2030 term, Mario Lubetkin, assistant director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) stated in an article.

In his opinion, the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC, recently held in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, endorsed the paramount contribution that the region could make to accelerate the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

As he recalled, FAO estimates showed that in 2022, 6.5% of the population in that area of the planet suffered from hunger, which represented 2.4 million fewer people than in 2021.
