Taliban deny terrorist presence in Afghanistan

Kabul, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) Deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate (Taliban government), Hamdullah Fetrat, said today that some groups are trying to create concern among the people of Afghanistan and the countries of the region.

Unfortunately, some circles are trying to create discomfort through negative publicity and spreading baseless claims. We assure other countries with full confidence that Afghan soil will not be used against anyone, the spokesman said.

Fetrat made the comment amid concerns about the presence and activities of terrorist groups on the national territory, following a report recently published by the Daily Beast newspaper on the extremist Islamic State (IS) organization and its presence in Afghanistan.

The document states that Daesh – as the group is also called – after being defeated in Iraq and Syria, has found a new safe refuge in Afghanistan and is planning terrorist attacks there.

In response to the report, the Islamic Emirate claimed that IS has been defeated in Afghanistan and that some groups are trying to create unrest among citizens.

Earlier, countries in the region, had expressed concern over the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, especially Daesh, but the Taliban have always dismissed such allegations as baseless.
