Haiti experiences difficulties with drinking water

Port-au-Prince, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) The National Management of Drinking Water is promoting the idea of creating a humanitarian corridor in the capital of Haiti to distribute water, which is beginning to become scarce due to clashes between gang members and the police.

Guyto Edouard, head of the entity, explained that technicians can’t reach various points in the capital to guarantee the service. “The water supply situation in the capital is literally worrying”, he stated and proposed creating a humanitarian corridor.

The severity of the shortage is beginning to be felt in various parts of the Haitian capital, and the crisis may worsen if gang activity continues.

In the center of the city, there are long lines at water outlets. For further distress the population, water has increased in price, and people are forced to pay 200 gourdes (1.51 US dollars) for five gallons.

Other people deposit 15 gourdes to fill a bucket, and then some walk a considerable distance looking for a place where water is delivered for free.
