Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the organization Gerardo Peñalver was chosen for the post along with his counterparts from Indonesia, Namibia and Nicaragua.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Ahmad Faisal Muhamad will take the post of rapporteur and also deputy chair.
In a message posted on X, the Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister also assured that he would hold such responsibility with the commitment to continue denouncing Israel’s crimes and for a genuine peace process in the Middle East.
The Committee was created in 1975 by the United Nations General Assembly with the mandate to recommend a roadmap for independence and sovereignty to the Palestinians, as well as to promote the return to their homes and properties, of which they were dispossesed.
Over the years, the 193-member forum has gradually broadened the functions of the Committee supporting the establishment of the State of Palestine, side by side with Israel, within secure and recognized borders.
As part of its functions, that body further seeks to mobilize international aid and assistance for the Palestinian people.
