Argentine President blames official for salary increase

Buenos Aires, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) The Argentine President, Javier Milei, announced Monday the dismissal of the Secretary of Labor, Omar Yasin, blamed for an increase in the salary of the members of the Executive Branch, including the President.

In statements to La Nacion+ TV channel, Milei announced his decision and pointed out that it was ‘a mistake he should not have made’.

By means of decree 206/2024, signed by Milei, the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello, and the Chief of Cabinet Nicolas Posse on February 29 of this year, a salary increase was authorized for the Senior Authorities of the Jurisdictions, Entities and Agencies of the Executive for a total of around 48%.

The above generated a strong controversy during the last few days, since it took place in a context marked by a great adjustment, a socioeconomic crisis, the refusal to increase payments to workers and Milei’s repeated pronouncements on his distancing from what he considers ‘the political caste’, which he accuses of squandering the State’s resources.
