Almost half of gang members in Haiti are minors

Port-au-Prince, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) Almost half of gang members in Haiti are minors; thus, they suffer from not accessing their basic rights nowadays.

“Widespread poverty and lack of economic opportunities further drive children to join armed groups,” the Haiti Libre website underscored. It added to be estimated that 30% to 50% of gang members are minors.

In addition to wielding automatic weapons, guns and machetes, children serve as spies, cooks and girls are abused by gang members.

Recently, the Zanmi Timoun Foundation described as catastrophic the situation of children in Haiti, where minors are directly impacted by the economic, political and social crisis.

The director of programs of the aforementioned entity, Manoach Presna, lamented the panorama that children are experiencing amid an upsurge in food and health problems.
