According to reports from women’s organizations, those statistics are alarming.
Official data from the Aldea Foundation showed that in 2022, 332 femicides were reported in Ecuador, the highest number in history.
Last year, 321 women lost their lives violently, the second highest number since the crime was typified.
The coastal provinces concentrate 77 percent of femicides in Ecuador. The extreme violence with which the victims are attacked is also worrying in that region.
On International Women’s Day on Friday, hundreds of Ecuadorian women marched against war and gender violence and for a life of dignity, peace, and social justice. jg/iff/mem/nta
