Parlatino Commissions debate on the use of Artificial Intelligence

Panama City, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) The Health, Education and Citizen Security Commissions of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), based in Panama since 2006, began sessions focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to members of the legislature, headed by Cuban deputy Rolando González Patricio, AI has become a growing concern for the region, given the scarce development and management of this advanced technology, which is sometimes used to affect the honor of individuals and institutions.

In the first deliberations at this level of the Parlatino, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary, they evaluated a draft model law on AI, about which the Cuban deputy Miguel Enrique Charbonet said that the aim is to establish legal regulations and ethical principles for its development.

The parliamentarian commented that this institution recognizes the use of AI, but for the development of a sustainable society and in a responsible way by citizens, development companies and the States.

According to reports, the Parlatino worked together with its national peers, multidisciplinary teams and experts from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, among other actors, on these issues.
