Beijing, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Wang Yi today stressed the need to act quickly to avoid an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict and recalled that this situation must end at the negotiating table.

The diplomat referred to this issue in a foreign relation conference within the framework of the XIV National People’s Assembly (NPA).

Wang said that in regard to Ukraine, China has always maintained an objective and impartial position and facilitated peace talks’.

He recalled that President Xi Jinping’s special envoy ‘has traveled intensively to mediate between the different sides.

“A strong impression we had at the recent Munich Security Conference is that, as more and more people begin to worry about a possible win-win outcome, the conditions are ready to explore a reliable way out of this crisis,” he remarked.

The minister emphasized that all conflicts have to end at the negotiating table: ‘The sooner the talks begin, the sooner peace will come’.

“As long as all parties respect the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and their legitimate concerns are properly addressed, I believe that a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture will be established in Europe,” he said.

He reiterated Beijing’s support for holding an international peace conference recognized by Russia and Ukraine, ensuring equal participation of all parties.

“China looks forward to the early restoration of peace and stability on the European continent, and will continue to play a constructive role in this regard,” he concluded.
