Yesterday, the Board of Directors of the National Electoral Council of the neighboring country announced that the elections will be held on that date.
The head of this organ, Elvis Amoroso told the press the schedule of the consultation, which will have its campaign between July 4 and 25, and affirmed that the national board evaluated the different proposals and recommendations approved in a consensus document last week.
Amoroso pointed out that the agenda envisages all the constitutional, legal and technical requirements to hold this year’s presidential elections, the 31st since the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution.
He highlighted the participation in this process of 97 percent of the registered political parties, which represent 85 percent of the popular vote of the last vote held in December, 2021. He pointed out that the manuscript is in keeping with the Barbados agreements, signed in October last year between the Government delegation at the negotiating table and the opposition Democratic Unitary Platform.
The Venezuelan election date coincides with the birthday of the late President Hugo Chávez, who died in 2013.
