A press release published on Tuesday on the website of the Corriere del Trentino newspaper reports that the risks are high, particularly in the Alpine mountains of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, bordering Austria, where last February 28 and last Sunday two young people, 22 and 16 years old, respectively, were killed in avalanches.
More than 6,000 people have been isolated since March 3 by avalanches that blocked a tunnel in the Gressoney-Saint-Jean valley, in the northern region of Val d’Aosta, bordering France, where on Monday night another avalanche covered the regional road of Val di Rhemes, in the Aosta Valley.
Due to the avalanches that have occurred since Sunday in the aforementioned area, the upper valley of Gressoney was isolated by a mass of snow that blocked the entrance to a tunnel in the commune of Gaby, the source said.
On the other hand, in the Liguria region, the heavy rains of the last few hours have caused landslides in Genoa’s metropolitan area, as well as in Borzoli, where a road connecting that city with the adjacent hills was blocked.
Another landslide in Cinque Terre, where there is a heavy tourist influx, isolated about 130 inhabitants in the community of Corniglia and similar cases have been reported in areas of the Emilia-Romagna region and in Piedmont too, the source added.
