According to the South African National Defense Force (Sandf), the incident occurred when one of its members killed another with his service weapon before shooting himself with fatal consequences.
In a statement last week the Sandf said they had convened a board of inquiry to work with the Monusco command to clarify the incident and the circumstances that led to it. In an unrelated development, in February this year two Sandf members were killed in a mortar attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo and three others were wounded in the incident.
Last February 13, South Africa revealed the deployment of 2,900 Sandf members in the DRC to assist the DRC government in the fight against armed irregular groups.
