Among those apprehended in the raids this Monday morning are the former president of the Provincial Court of Justice of Guayas Maria Fabiola Gallardo and the former assemblyman for the Social Christian Party between 2021 and 2023 Pablo Muentes.
The interventions took place in homes of the municipalities of Guayaquil and Samborondón as part of the so-called Purge Case, which, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, is derived from the Metastasis Case.
In Muentes’ house, the police seized two firearms, cell phones, storage devices, luxury watches, liquor, jewelry, documents, cash (7,535 dollars and 505 euros) and a checkbook.
The Attorney General, Diana Salazar, said through a video shared on social media that they have elements that evidence the need to “clean up the judicial system, to get rid of corruption and the deep structural decomposition we have witnessed these last months”.
Salazar said that he will charge the detainees in the coming hours and referred to how corruption was generated from the highest levels of legislative politics and the administration of justice in Guayas, one of the most influential provinces in the country.
