By majority vote, the justices handed down sentences ranging from 14 to 17 years behind bars for those charged with criminal association, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, aggravated damage and damage to demolished property.
The STF began to judge defendants in September 2023 for vandalism to the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília.
The Superior Court received a total of 1,345 complaints from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
Out of this number, 1,113 were suspended for the PGR to evaluate whether it will propose agreements to avoid conviction.
The extremist acts left a material damage of 20.7 million reais (a bit more than USD$5 million).
In the sentences, the Supreme Court has been establishing the a fine of R$ 30 million (US$6 million), divided among all convicts, for collective damages.
