Gargavanis was part of a joint UN mission that visited al-Amal hospital in Khan Younis to evacuate some patients and deliver medical supplies, along with some food, water and fuel.
Comprising WHO, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Palestinian Refugee Agency, the Population Fund, the United Nations Mine Action Service and the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, the mission was also able to deliver emergency surgical supplies and antibiotics to treat some 50 infections.
The WHO official assured that the top priority was to identify and refer some of the patients still in the facility for care.
“There is no respect for any rules or humanitarian rights related to medical staff. We feel that life is very difficult here,” al-Amal Hospital Director Haider al-Qudra stated.
