UN actions surrounding Gaza are “unacceptable” says Iran

Beirut, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) The Foreign Minister of Iran, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, described as unacceptable the actions of the United Nations regarding what is happening in Gaza in the midst of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

The Foreign Minister rejected the Security Council’s stance by failing to do its duty in light of the United States’ unilateral veto of ceasefire resolutions in Gaza.

During an interview with the Al Mayadeen pan-Arab TV network, Abdollahian indicated that United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres took some good measures, but could not help the people of Gaza in an effective and real way. He also expressed hope that the International Court of Justice will issue its ruling in the coming days and make the decision a principle for all United Nations institutions.

The diplomat reiterated Iran’s support for South Africa in the political, media, and legal order for the brave act of accusing Israel of genocide and seeking justice for the Palestinian people. Moreover, he blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for seeking a war solution to save himself and his government. He also protested the ongoing process of sending US warships and arms from all bases in the region to Israel.

Abdollahian urged regional leaders not to allow the use of national territories to host foreign military enclaves or supply weapons to the Israeli occupants. “Netanyahu seeks to expand the scope of the war and wants to involve Washington in conflicts, and the United States government does not have the necessary will to stop the aggression,” he stressed, pointing out that if the White House abandons its military support to Israel, Netanyahu will be unable to continue the war against Gaza.

At another point in the interview, the Iranian minister warned about Israel’s intentions to forcibly move the residents of Gaza to the Sinai Desert in Egypt and the people of the West Bank to Jordan. “If it were not for the resistance and firmness of the Palestinian people, the scene of the areas next to the occupied territories would be different,” he said.

Regarding the situation in Rafah, Abdollahian highlighted the failure of Israel’s plans to displace Palestinians from their legitimate lands, and reaffirmed that the solution to the war in Gaza lies through political means. He also called on international actors to allow Palestinian leaders to put their ideas on the table through democratic means and pay attention to purely national solutions and initiatives.
