Lazo participated in the opening of the fourth extraordinary plenary meeting of the second legislative session of the current mandate of the Parliament of Angola, where he was received by the deputies with a standing ovation.
The chairwoman of the Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, expressed satisfaction with the visit and the actions that will emerge from it and will allow strengthening links between both Parliaments, for which she requested the greatest cooperation of all.
Lazo, who visited Angola for the first time as president of the Cuban Parliament, wrote in the Book of Honor, where he expressed his willingness to strengthen relations of friendship, cooperation, and affection. “In doing so, we are reinforcing historical ties between our peoples, founded on the common struggle and bloodshed to defend the independence of Angola,” he wrote, adding that “There is great potential to strengthen interparliamentary relations, to enhance our bilateral relations”.
Lazo arrived in Luanda on Tuesday. On the first day, he held talks with his counterpart, Carolina Cerqueira, about possible actions to deepen working relations between the two entities.
During the talks, Lazo stressed Cuba’s commitment to strengthening the current bond, as well as promoting the exchange of experiences, and proposed accompanying the Angola-Cuba intergovernmental commission with an interparliamentary commission, which should be evaluated by both parliaments.
The parties also discussed the possibility of holding a working meeting via videoconference.
