Addressing the Conference on Disarmament in the context of the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Gil said that the event faces an unprecedented challenge and a “unique opportunity” to reaffirm its relevance and capacity to take actions.
The head of Venezuelan diplomacy stressed in his message to the plenary session that we cannot allow its stagnation to define its legacy; it is “time to act decisively,” he wrote on his X account.
The Bolivarian Republic supports all mechanisms to end violence against peoples, and respect sovereignty and the construction of a safer and fairer world.
We also emphasize our firm commitment and defense of the principles of International Law and the United Nations Charter as a fundamental step to guarantee the peoples’ right to live in peace, he noted.
Gil affirmed that at this “critical time,” the Bolivarian Government, faithful to its deeply humanist vocation, reiterates its support for all initiatives to stop violence, respect peoples’ sovereignty, and make progress toward a safer and more peaceful world.
