St.Vincent & the Grenadines FM to present Celac report

Kingstown, Feb 27 (Prensa Latina) The foreign minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Keisal Peters, will present a report on the country's performance while leading the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), local press reported today.

According to NBC Radio, the Foreign Minister will show the document next Friday to the delegations attending the summit of leaders to be held in the country.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will bid a farewell that day to a year at the head of CELAC, becoming the first member of the Caribbean Community to assume such responsibility.

Its ambassador to Cuba, Ellsworth John, told the API news agency that heading said organization was a diplomatic triumph for the Antillean nation and also the work of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves contributed to make it more visible on the global scene.

A relevant event during the temporary presidency of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Celac was the meeting here between Presidents Nicolás Maduro (Venezuela) and Irfaan Ali (Guyana) to reach an understanding and lower tensions over the disputed zone of the Essequibo.

He also predicted that the eighth summit of the bloc will be another opportunity where the country will consolidate its reputation in diplomacy and as host of an event of high relevance for the area and the world.

Meanwhile, the national coordinator of Celac, Douglas Slater, mentioned the total conformation of the Plan of nutrition and food security of the group, during the presidency of Saint Vincent.

Regarding the summit, he said that only three countries have yet to confirm their attendance and that most of the delegations will be headed by dignitaries.

The agenda -he added- will include multiple activities and will be widely covered by the national and foreign press.

On the other hand, the Minister of Finance, Camilo Gonsalves, emphasized the role of Celac as a promoter of unity and cooperation among the 33 members, as well as its contribution to trade, investments and every aspect related to economic growth.
