For Orban, the question of the conflict’s winner is a trap as there can be neither losers nor winners in it, MTI news agency reported.
“It would be wrong to refer now to possible culprits in the clash, as that would hinder the search for a way out to end hostilities,” Orban said at a press conference in Prague, quoted here by the capital’s television.
After a meeting with his colleagues from the Visegrad group, which also includes the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, Orban considered that Ukraine will not defeat Ukraine, but Ukraine will not succeed over China either, and that is why continuing the war makes no sense, he stated.
The issue of who was responsible for the conflict should be analyzed once peace can be achieved, the Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed adding, “I call on everyone to maintain strategic calm on this issue.”
Budapest initially opposed the application of unilateral punitive measures against Russia, and then had to give in to pressure from the European Union to do so, although Orban’s Government maintains long-term Russian gas supply deals.
Among over 14,000 restrictions applied by the West against Moscow has been the boycott on the purchase of Russian hydrocarbons, to which gold and diamonds have been added in recent times, even though Russia produces 35% of those diamonds in the world.
Orban’s statements come after several media and politicians in the West had to acknowledge the failure of Kiev’s counter-offensive against Russian forces that two years ago launched an operation to protect the uprising population of Donbas.
