Cerqueira welcomed her Cuban counterpart at the Angolan House of Laws, accompanied by a group of parliamentarians, and said it was a great honor to receive him; thus, deepen the historic ties of friendship between the two bodies.
Meanwhile, Lazo stressed the importance of the visit and the commitment to strengthen relations, bolster the exchange of experiences and, through those ties, reinforce love, affection and friendship between the two peoples.
During the dialogue with the President of the Angolan Legislative, they recalled the visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, in August 2023, when he was also received in the Assembly and made a speech in front of parliamentarians.
They further referred to the meeting between Cerqueira and the Deputy Chair of the Cuban Parliament Ana Maria Mari Machado, who headed a delegation from Cuba in October 2023, which participated in the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Luanda.
After the encounter between the two officials, both delegations held a fraternal exchange in which the deputy chairs of the Angolan Parliament, the chairs of the parliamentary groups of the different political parties and other members of the board of directors took part.
On the Cuban side were present the Ambassador to Angola Oscar Leon, the Deputy Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Angel Villa, the Director of International Relations of the Parliament Jesus Mora, and the Director of Communications Enrique Moreno.
It was a space to share details on the structure of both assemblies and their functions. Lazo further praised the presence of women and the role of the grassroots delegate in Cuba, a fundamental pillar of the People’s Power system and Cuban democracy.
The Cuban leader commented on the proposal made to accompany the Angola-Cuba intergovernmental commission with an inter-parliamentary commission, which would allow for closer relations between the two bodies.
