China rejects US report and reiterates commitment to WTO

Organizacion-Mundial-de-Comercio-1
Beijing, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) China rejected a recent report from the United States denying China's achievements in fulfilling its commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Office of the Trade Representative in Washington also stated that Beijing’s economic-trade policies pose enormous challenges to world trade.

In response, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce described the accusations as false and denounced the US side’s ignorance regarding China’s fulfillment of its promises within the WTO. It also condemned the distortion of national achievements in building a socialist market economy and in terms of reform and opening-up policy.

The Ministry of Commerce reiterated China’s commitment to the multilateral trading system and its support for true multilateralism, and criticized the “America First” stance, which violates WTO rules and seriously affects the international trade order.

Beijing urged Washington to correct its behavior, seriously comply with the organization’s rules and collaborate with other members on the basis of mutual respect, cooperation and constructive dialogue.

The United States report comes to light just as the 13th ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization is being held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in which the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, is participating.

In a bilateral meeting with Wang, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala thanked China for its support of the multilateral trading system and the work of the WTO.
