CARICOM Conference of Heads of Gov’t. opens in Guyana

Georgetown, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) Leaders of all 20 countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will start the 46th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government here on Sunday, until next Wednesday.

The event will be held at the National Cultural Center in this capital, and its agenda will address financial matters such as the replenishment of the organization’s Development Fund, regional security, including the convulsive situation in Haiti and border issues, the CARICOM Today website reported.

Topics comprise climate change and financing to face it, regional transportation, global and hemispheric issues such as recent developments in the Middle East, compensation and the ICC 2024 men’s T-20 Cricket World Cup, the source explained.

CARICOM Secretary General Carla Barnett said the high-level meeting will focus on deepening regional integration and better promoting Caribbean interests in the international arena.

Barnett mentioned food security and nutrition, energy, crime and public safety, the advancement of the Single Market and the Single Caribbean Economy as issues to be addressed in the search for consensus and possible solutions.
