Ecuadorians will vote Yes or No to each of the 10 questions proposed by President Daniel Noboa, which also includes the issue of the involvement of the Armed Forces in actions against insecurity on a permanent basis.
The questions were previously endorsed by the Constitutional Court.
According to the approved calendar, there will be a period to campaign for or against the proposed issues.
Noboa’s proposal to hold a popular consultation was called erratic and unnecessary since it covers issues that can be dealt with in the legislature without the need to carry out the process, as it is considered costly in the current circumstances of the country’s fiscal deficit.
Analysts consider that Noboa seeks to use the plebiscite to legitimize his security policy, which, if successful, may catapult him in his intentions to run for a new four-year period in the February 2025 elections.
