Mexico heads the Financial Action Task Force

Mexico City, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) Mexico was elected chair of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs announced on Friday in a joint statement.

Likewise, Elisa de Anda Madrazo was approved for the position, the first woman to hold the post in over 20 years.

The statement said that the FATF is an intergovernmental body that sets standards, promotes and evaluates the implementation of legal, regulatory and operational measures to fight off money laundering, the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

It adds that, within the FATF, of Anda Madrazo has served as deputy chair, head of the Mexican delegation, co-chair of the Coordination Group and Global Network, co-chair of the Malaysian Membership Contact Group and member of the Steering Group.

Her nomination was made by the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit Rogelio Ramirez de la O in November, and she enjoyed the support and accompaniment of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

Mexico’s election represents a victory for its domestic financial diplomacy and a testimony of the international community’s confidence in our country, both secretariats referred.

They reaffirm Mexican Government’s commitment to continue cracking down the harmful ways of corruption, money laundering, terrorist financing and illicit financial flows for weapons of mass destruction and from human trafficking.
