According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the special representative of the Chinese government for Korean Peninsula affairs, Liu Xiaoming, spoke via videoconference with a senior Washington official on North Korean issues.
During the exchange, Beijing stressed that maintaining peace and stability, as well as advancing the political solution of problems, is in the common interest of the region and the international community.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin recently reaffirmed the support and trust between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and China in the face of the turbulent international situation, adding that for Beijing the ties with the DPRK are strategic and of long term, which is why he called for deepening exchanges in various fields.
On several occasions, the Foreign Ministry reiterated the call for dialogue and consultation to address the issue of the Korean Peninsula: “Trying to resolve the problem through military deterrence and pressure will not work and will only be counterproductive, further intensify the contradictions and aggravate tensions,” Wang stressed.
China warned that constant military exercises between the United States, South Korea and Japan contribute to increasing tensions in the region.
