Bridges of Love bring donations to Cuban provinces

puentes-de-amor
Camagüey, Cuba, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) The Bridges of Love solidarity project arrived in this city on Friday, for the first time, from the United States to bring a donation of powdered milk to the hospital system of this region of Cuba.

During the tour of the delegation, made up of 12 members, allowed Prensa Latina to speak exclusively with Bridges of Love leader Carlos Lazo.

Lazo said that their presence in Camagüey “is part of an initiative by Code Pink founder Medea Benjamín to bring powdered milk to children’s hospitals of this province as well as Ciego de Avila.”

The humanitarian activist referred to the “Milk for Cuba” project, developed by Cuban emigrants, and from the patriotic emigration, as well as US citizens, to open holes in the blockade,” he said when he visited the Historic Center of the city, which was declared a world heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

At the Ignacio Agramonte’s Birthplace Museum (1841-1873), in honor of the main independence leader in Camagüey during the fight against Spanish colonialism, Lazo assured that “we have visited many provinces and some that I was missing was Camagüey and Ciego, in addition to Las Tunas and Granma where we will go next month with more help for the Cuban people.

Upon seeing the solidarity group, several of the inhabitants of the third most populated city in Cuba insisted on taking photos with Lazo.

“The welcome has been extraordinary, I had never been to Camagüey but anywhere in the country you feel like family, you walk down the street and for people to recognize you precisely for that solidarity, and for them to know that it is Bridges of Love is very gratifying,” he concluded.

Made up more than five years ago as collaborators in the Cuban Public Health system, Bridges of Love has become a reference of solidarity and unity among the community of Cubans living in the United States who are firmly interested in the end of the blockade against Island.

To this end, it not only demands the end of the genocidal policy, but also provides spiritual and material support for the inhabitants of Cuba.
