United Nations, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The UN Security Council will evaluate the results of its most recent visit to Colombia, the third since the 2016 Peace Agreement was signed.

The Council will review the conclusions of its tour in Colombia, from February 7th to 11th, after recognizing the results of President Gustavo Petro’s comprehensive peace policy, as well as the negotiated solutions to the conflict.

The UN mission welcomed the initiatives of the current government to negotiate with other groups, such as the National Liberation Army guerrilla or the Central General Staff, the main dissidents of the FARC.

While on a visit, Pascale Baeriswyl, the representative of Switzerland to the UN, praised Colombia as “a positive and encouraging example for the world”. She further added that their purpose was not only to encourage and support Colombia’s efforts but also to bring hope to other conflicts around the world.

In turn, the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Elizabeth Taylor, stated that the visit left useful experiences and many lessons.

The Security Council held meetings with different actors involved in the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement with signatories of the agreement and also with the president of Colombia.

“The itinerary has left a very positive balance,” said Carlos Ruiz, the head of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia. “The Security Council has expressed confidence and support to the Colombian Government for all peace efforts, including the dialogues that are underway to lead to good results.”
