Dino, 55, who is also a senator, replaces Minister Rosa Maria Weber, who left office in September after reaching the age of 75, the age limit for SFC members.
Between 2015 and 2023, the former minister was governor of Maranhão state (northeast) and previously served as a federal judge.
Upon assuming the seat vacated by Weber, he will also inherit the collection of 340 processes that were under her responsibility.
Of the total, 235 began their processing directly at the SFC and 105 others came from other courts or trials.
The cases under the jurisdiction of the new minister of the court represent only 1.3 percent of the overall Supreme Court’s caseload, which has 25,242 pending cases.
On November 27, Dino was nominated to the SFC by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and on December 13, he was analyzed in the Senate Constitution and Justice Committee, and had his name approved in that college as well as in the plenary.
After the announcement, the magistrate used social networks to thank the head of state.

I am most grateful for this proof of professional recognition and trust in my dedication to our nation,’ he wrote on the occasion on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Brasilia, 22 feb (Prensa Latina) El exministro de Justicia Flávio Dino asumirá hoy como juez del Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) de Brasil, tras prestar juramento en conformidad con la Constitución Federal y las leyes de la República.
Dino, de 55 años y quien también es senador, sustituye a la ministra Rosa Maria Weber, quien dejó el cargo en septiembre luego de cumplir los 75 años, edad límite para los miembros del STF.
Entre 2015 y 2023, el exministro fue gobernador del estado de Maranhão (nordeste) y anteriormente fungió como juez federal.
Al asumir la silla dejada por Weber también heredará el acervo de 340 procesos que estaban bajo la relatoría de ella. Del total, 235 iniciaron su tramitación directamente en el STF y otros 105 vinieron de otros tribunales o juicios.
Los procesos de competencia del nuevo ministro de la corte representan solo el 1,3 por ciento del acervo general del Supremo, que cuenta con 25 mil 242 en trámite.
El 27 de noviembre Dino fue nominado al STF por el presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva y el 13 de diciembre fue analizado en la Comisión de Constitución y Justicia del Senado, y tuvo su nombre aprobado en aquel colegio como en el plenario.
Después del anuncio, el magistrado utilizó las redes sociales para agradecer al jefe de Estado.
