The event will bring together over 1,500 political and social leaders, activists from political organizations, popular movements and their representatives, unions and political parties, women, students, unions, intellectuals, academic communities, and others standing for governments from across the region, to discuss solutions and paths to expand rapprochement between South American countries.
“We will meet with all possible social organizations, unions, student movements and political parties to talk and exchange about the common problems of Our America and the paths to the future,” declared former Uruguayan president José “Pepe” Mujica about the meeting. He pointed out that “above the differences we may have, we have a set of common interests. There, in Foz de Iguazú, where the borders meet, we are going to gather hope,” he remarked.
The event will feature discussion tables on topics related to the systemic crisis of capitalism, threats to peace and the sovereignty of peoples, cultural manifestations, and, of course, the challenges of the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean. The program also includes conferences in the first two days on the global crisis of capitalism and the threats to people’s sovereignty.
A cultural event in solidarity with Cuba and a Latin American festival will also occur.
Since last year, popular movements and unions have been working on organizing the meeting, which in addition will debate the directions of regional policy, aiming to build unity around a political-programmatic platform for the integration of the countries.
