Argentine health care workers demand salary increase

Argentina-Salud-Covid-768x577
Buenos Aires, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) With a strike and actions to publicize their claims, Argentine health care workers are today expressing their dissatisfaction with government measures and are demanding a salary increase.

The personnel of clinics, sanatoriums, private hospitals, diagnostic institutes, clinical analysis, consulting rooms and psychiatric facilities, among other entities, joined the protests which will be extended throughout the country this day.

The Federation of Healthcare Workers’ Associations stated that this is the beginning of a plan of struggle and that ‘only minimum shifts will be covered and emergencies will be attended exclusively’.

The members of this organization are demanding a salary increase in view of the high inflation rates registered, which have ‘definitively demolished the purchasing power’.

Our income has reached an intolerable deterioration.

There is no money for workers alone.

Without salaries there is no health. No more excuses and postponements, says a Federation communiqué.

The National Institute of Statistics and Census reports that the general level of the Consumer Price Index in this country increased 20.6 percent in January and the inter-annual growth was 254.2.

During the last few weeks there were significant increases in the costs of public transportation, food, electricity, medicines and school supplies, among others.
