UN warns of serious risks for humanitarian workers in Gaza

United Nations, Feb 21 (Prensa Latina) The UN Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths lamented on Wednesday the bombing of a Doctors Without Borders shelter in Gaza, which left several injured and deaths.

On his X account, the high representative posted that humanitarian workers are risking their lives and, like all civilians, must be safeguarded.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) described the situation in the Gaza Strip as a “death zone.” Across the whole war devastated Gaza Strip, severe malnutrition has skyrocketed dramatically since the war began on October 7, from less than 1% of the population to over 15% in some areas.

WHO’s Director General Tedros Adhanom reaffirmed on Wednesday from Geneva the serious risks to humanitarian workers and the need to ensure their protection.

The agency demanded an end to hindrances to the entry and distribution of aid into Gaza, including fuel, as well as the free and safe movement of medical and humanitarian personnel.
