ACC seals cultural agreement with Cuban orchestra (+Photos)

Havana, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) As a tribute to the 45th Anniversary of the Independence of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, the cultural project "Asociación Caribeña de Cuba-Orquesta Charanga de Oro" began to be implemented from February 20, 2024, onwards.

The document, which made the cultural agreement official, was signed by Ms. María Milagros Rollock Hernández, president of the Caribbean Association of Cuba (ACC), and Dr. Eulalio Loyola Fernández, director of the Charanga de Oro Orchestra.

The signing of this project was witnessed, among other diplomats and guests, by the Ambassador of Saint Lucia and President Pro-Tempore of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) group in Cuba, Dr. Charles Isaac.

From now on, every time the ACC headquarters celebrates the independence of a country of the Caribbean region, or other activities for that purpose, the Charanga will play traditional and contemporary music of the honored country, as well as Cuban melodies.

In choosing the aforementioned musical group for this cultural agreement, its experience of more than 20 years in the promotion of music, based on the enrichment of the cultural heritage of the entire Caribbean geography, was taken into account.

The Caribbean Association of Cuba is a cultural institution that will celebrate its 92nd anniversary on the 3rd of March. The ACC currently has 410 associates, all descendants of 25 member countries of CARICOM and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

On February 22, Saint Lucia, a full member of CARICOM and the OECS, will celebrate 45 years of independence from the former Great Britain, now the United Kingdom.

Referring to that historical date, in his closing speech at the venue of the ACC, the Ambassador of Saint Lucia, Dr. Charles Isaac, pointed out the fruitful relations between his country and Cuba, while condemning the economic and financial blockade imposed on the island for more than six decades.

He also expressed his strongest disapproval of the ongoing genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
