The general secretary of that organization, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, regretted in a statement that this is the third time that Washington intervenes to stop an initiative that defends a humanitarian ceasefire since the outbreak of the crisis on October 7th, 2023.
Aboul Gheit affirmed that the White House’s position reduces the credibility of the international system and reinforces the state of paralysis of the United Nations.
The Palestinian Presidency expressed in a statement its surprise at that country’s continued refusal “to stop the war of extermination waged by the Israeli occupants against our people.” Washington’s position, which defies the will of the international community, will give additional green light to Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to continue its war campaign in Gaza, it assured.
“We hold the United States responsible for the continued Israeli aggression against Palestinian children, women and the elderly in that territory as a result of its policy of supporting barbaric attacks,” it said.
In turn, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry expressed its deep regret and rejected the Security Council’s repeated failure to adopt an agreement to end the fighting there. “Egypt considers the obstruction of a resolution demanding a ceasefire in an armed conflict, which has claimed the lives of more than 29 thousand civilians, mostly children and women, is a shameful precedent in the history of the management of armed conflicts and wars by the Security Council,” it said.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also condemned the selectivity and double standards displayed by the international community when addressing wars and armed conflicts in different regions.
