Capote was one of Cuba’s first analysts of scientific and technological policy and its relation to economic and social development. He was also a Merit Academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and a relevant Member of SEAP.

His impressive written work includes the titles Cuestiones de la ciencia y la tecnología en Cuba and Ciencia y tecnología en Cuba, and Antecedents y Desarrollo.

His works include his participation in the compilation of Fidel Castro’s thoughts on science, technology, and society in the period 1959-1991.

Besides, he left an important collection of articles for the Revista Anales de la Academia de Ciencias de Cuba, and the Revista Bimestre Cubana, the publication organ of the SEAP.

In 2001 he received the Carlos J. Finlay Order, the highest national decoration awarded to Cuban and foreign scientists.

The SEAP has among its challenges to further cultivate its history, its actions in two centuries and to occupy a greater space in the process of transformations that is developing in the nation and community work.

Its social task includes mobilizing the scientific-technical community to achieve the objectives set by the Cuban Revolution.
