Russian FM arrived in Venezuela for official visit

Caracas, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, arrived in Caracas for an official visit to Venezuela as part of his tour through Latin America, during which he is scheduled to meet with President Nicolás Maduro and other local authorities.

Lavrov previously visited Venezuela in April 2023, when they agreed upon measures to expand trade cooperation and investments. The Minister said then that Moscow and Caracas have a very rich agenda, with practical projects, as well as cooperation that, in practice, “strengthens the foundations of our economies,” which do not depend on the whims or blackmail of the West.

Official sources announced that a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation, aimed at counteracting sanctions, is scheduled to be signed on Wednesday. An event to install the bust of the Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin will be held on the same day.

Venezuela and Russia have reached 78 years of diplomatic relations. Friendship was promoted to the level of strategic partners with the arrival of the Bolivarian Government in 1999.

Delegations from both countries have met 16 times through the High-Level Intergovernmental Commission and signed more than 335 agreements in 20 spheres of interest.

Lavrov will end his Latin American and Caribbean tour in Brazil on Thursday.
