Ecuadorian health authorities are concerned about deaths from dengue

dengue-1-1
Quito, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) Health authorities remain alert on Tuesday after four people died of dengue fever in Ecuador.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, in the first weeks of this year, 5,337 dengue cases were reported, and the largest number of patients is concentrated in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, with 994, followed by Manabí with 838, Los Ríos with 644 and Guayas with 365.

The Ministry explained that in the provinces of the Sierra, contagions have been reported in Cañar with 252 infected, Pichincha with 137 and Cotopaxi with 66.

The experts warned that dengue fever, which is caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, can be fatal if there is no adequate clinical management, since infections occur.

They also warned that vector control and epidemiological surveillance are essential, as well as fumigation and cleaning campaigns at homes, since mosquitoes breed easily in hot and humid areas, and hotter places attract rain.

During 2023, 2,958 cases of dengue were reported in Ecuador, distributed mainly in the provinces of Guayas, El Oro and Manabí, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
