The Congolese Constitution, in its article 108, establishes that the elected representatives must obligatorily choose between their current position and the elective mandate; hence, the resignation of the PM and other figures of the Executive.
The eight-day deadline given to those elected as lawmakers expires on February 20 at midnight, so the Deputy Prime Ministers of Economy Vital Kamerhe and of the Civil Service Jean-Pierre Lihau, in addition to the Secretary of State for Regional Integration Antipas Mbusa; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Crispin Mbadu; the Minister of Employment Claudine Ndusi, and the Secretary of State for Urban Planning and Housing Puis Muabilu, all resigned on Tuesday.
The Deputy Prime Minister and head of Defense of the DRC Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo will take over as interim PM, while Tshisekedi appoints a new figure to the post.
