INEC’s Director Roberto Castillo assured that by 2024, there will be 17.9 million Ecuadorians, while by 2034 there will be 19.3 million, reaching over 21 million by 2050 with an aging trend.
By presenting on Monday the Population Projections and Census Omission of the Population and Housing Census 2022, Castillo explained that for every 100 children younger than 15, there will be 125 people over 60.
Among the factors affecting a population growth lower than projected in the 2010 census, INEC underscored that the country faces demographic changes as a result of deaths due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the upsurge in intentional homicides, and the migration wave.
