Costa Rica to roll out intensive measures to curb dengue

Dengue-Positivo-Mosquito
San Jose, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) The Costa Rican Health Ministry on Monday reinforced its domestic strategy to fight off dengue with intensive fumigation campaigns in vulnerable areas, after 3,356 cases were reported in 2024.

Health Minister Mary Munive said in a press conference that four dengue serotypes are presently circulating nationwide.

The idea is to carry out a first cycle of intensive fumigation and visit up to 8,000 houses, Munive said.

Munive, who also serves as Vice-President of the Republic, explained that, after an evaluation conducted by technicians and epidemiologists, the priority localities were selected.

It is important to point out that screenings and control of breeding sites will be also carried out, accompanied by an adult in each house, who will be instructed on how to keep homes free of dengue, she explained.

Vice-president Munive also asked citizens to make sure that those who will enter their homes are duly identified with protective suits with the Health Ministry logo and their respective IDs.
