China and the US discuss security and bilateral issues

Beijing, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Public Security of China, Wang Xiaohong, held talks with the Secretary of National Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, regarding some bilateral issues during a meeting in Vienna, the Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the report, they addressed the implementation of the consensus between the two heads of state, the advancement of anti-narcotics cooperation and the resolution of issues of mutual interest.

According to the source, Wang urged upholding the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and collaboration, taking into account each other’s major concerns. He also advocated the removal of obstacles to drug law enforcement cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.

The Chinese diplomat spoke of the harassment and interrogations of Chinese students, and called on his US counterpart to ensure fair treatment of Chinese nationals, in addition to calling for practical and effective measures to safeguard Chinese diplomatic and consular institutions and personnel in the United States.

Wang also advocated for the elimination of visa restrictions for certain institutions and individuals in China and called for correcting the erroneous practice, drawn up by Washington, of including Beijing on the list of major drug sources.

According to Xinhua, the two sides agreed to maintain dialogue and cooperation in the field of narcotics and law enforcement on the basis of mutual respect and management of differences.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met this week with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the context of the 60th Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi reiterated to his American counterpart China’s hope in the promotion of healthy, stable and sustainable development of ties between the two countries based on the consensus reached by the heads of state of both nations during their meeting last November in San Francisco.
