Brazil calls its ambassador to Israel for consultation after crisis

Brasilia, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) Brazil called its Ambassador to Israel Frederico Meyer for consultation due to the diplomatic crisis between both nations after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's statement on attacks against the Gaza Strip.

Likewise, “in view of the seriousness of the Israeli Government’s statements on Monday morning, Minister Mauro Vieira, who is in Rio de Janeiro for the G20 meeting, summoned Israeli Ambassador Daniel Zonshine to appear on Monday at the Itamaraty Palace in Rio,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs unfolded.

Lula compared on Sunday the Israeli military offensive on Gaza to the Holocaust committed by Germany’s Dictator Adolf Hitler against the Jews during World War II.

“You know, what is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people does not exist in any other historical time. Notwithstanding, it did exist when Hitler decided to kill the Jews,” Lula denounced in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he is attending the African Union Summit as a guest.
