Brazilian President winds up official working visit to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Feb 18 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Inácio Lula da Silva concluded today his official visit to Ethiopia, which included participation in the 37th African Union Summit and bilateral meetings with several African leaders.

Lula met with counterparts from Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya and Libya, as well as the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

In these meetings, the South American leader talked about the economy and the fight against hunger and poverty.

At a press conference before leaving Addis Ababa, he stressed the importance of closer cooperation between the countries of the global South for the future of the world economy, in addition to expanding trade flows between Brazil and developing countries.

On resuming political cooperation between Brasilia and the African continent, he said ‘I would like Brazil to make it clear that we need to have a central relationship with the African continent.

Not only because Africa is part of our culture and our roots, but also because it is an extraordinary space for the future of the world’.

I am convinced, he added, that the poor are the solution of the contemporary world, we just need to give people the opportunities to be able to understand the middle class society that we can build.

A society without wars, without xenophobia and without disinformation.

A world that does not yet exist, but that we want to build,’ he emphasized and added: ‘Those who are currently on the UN Security Council do not want more countries to join. Geopolitics is different, different from 1945.”

We need representation from more countries, including those from the Global South, Lula stressed.
