“Another attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack with 33 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) against facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation was foiled,” the military ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The air defense intercepted and destroyed four drones over Belgorod oblast, another four over Voronezh oblast, one in the skies over Kursk, 18 in Bryansk oblast and six over Kaluga, it was reportedly stated.
The governor of Kaluga oblast, Vladislav Shapsha, reported earlier that four drones were shot down on Friday night, while three others were shot down on Saturday morning.
The governors of Bryansk and Voronezh, Alexander Bogomaz and Alexander Gusev, reported the destruction of five and two drones, respectively. In turn, the governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported the downing of two drones.
Russian provinces bordering Ukraine, such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh, are regular targets of shelling, drone raids and other attacks from across the border, which has forced the population to seek refuge in safe places.
