Mexico orders the capture of former Tamaulipas Governor

Mexico City, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) A judge issued an arrest warrant against former governor of Tamaulipas Javier García Cabeza de Vaca at the request of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) for money laundering, operations with illicit resources and organized crime.

García Cabeza de Vaca is a member of the opposition National Action Party (PAN), which keeps him on the list of candidates for multi-member federal deputies even though the FGR considers him to be on the run since he fled to the United States -where he was born- and from there he directed his campaign as pre-candidate of that party for the presidency of Mexico until he resigned.

The investigations of the prosecutors in charge of the case involve direct relatives of the ex-governor. Last December 6, the politician got another judge to cancel a third attempt to arrest him.

Previously, when he was governor, he managed that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, in confrontation with the Executive, maintained his constitutional immunity and annulled the first arrest warrant, also for operations with resources of illicit origin and organized crime.

The accusations against the former president and his compact group of PAN politicians are for having awarded properties and businesses in the shadow of power, which he held from 2016 to 2022.

Last December, the judge of the eighth district of Tamaulipas, Adriana Yolanda Vega Marroquín, granted him an injunction, after considering that there was insufficient evidence to prove the crimes he was accused of.
