During the interview granted to Prensa Latina, he stressed that the president, who is also secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el Hamra and Rio de Oro (Polisario), was received at the Presidential Palace by his Irish counterpart, Dr. Michael Daniel Higgins.
The diplomat underlined that during the meeting the two leaders discussed the latest developments related to the conflict in Western Sahara.
They also discussed the prospects for the future of relations and solidarity with the struggle of the Saharawi people in the European and international context, including the position of the Polisario Front on the changes taking place in the world, in accordance with the war situation in the national territory.
The ambassador informed in this regard that the Irish president expressed the position of support of his country for the struggle of the Saharawi people for their freedom, self-determination and independence.
According to the ambassador, this point of view is based on legality, international humanitarian law and the resolutions of the United Nations (UN) on the Saharawi question.
The president Brahim Ghali travelled accompanied by a delegation composed of the member of the National Secretariat, Minister Counsellor to the Presidency in charge of Diplomatic Affairs, Mohamed Ould Salek, and other senior officials.
Ambassador Salem Mohamed underlined that the present Irish government is close to the cause of liberation of the Saharawi and Palestinian peoples.
