Invited by Le Meaux to the territory of the northern region of Brittany, the diplomat heard details about the request to have Cuban doctors and the desire to strengthen ties with the Antillean nation on various issues of mutual benefit.
Vaillant highlighted the prestige earned by the island’s health professionals during more than six decades of solidarity and collaboration work in dozens of countries on the five continents, where they responded to the call of the international community in the face of the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and the scourge of Ebola in West Africa.
Regarding the interest in Brittany, the Cuban ambassador specified that his country would be willing to respond to the request, generated by the lack of doctors in various specialties, if the French government agrees to sign an agreement.
Mayors and other authorities of Guingamp-Paimpol have taken steps in recent years to materialize cooperation with the largest of the Antilles in the field of health, most of them present at the meeting with the ambassador.
In an atmosphere of friendship and widespread interest from the press, Vaillant shared aspects of the reality of Cuba and the impact on its people and its development by the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States has imposed on it for more than 60 years.
Likewise, he thanked the solidarity that the island receives from authorities, associations, unions and citizens of Brittany in the fight against this hostile policy, and recognized its concrete actions of support.
