García, who is also the former director of the Planning and Budget Office, pointed out that if the Broad Front (Frente Amplio-FA) wins the upcoming elections, it should adopt “emergency measures” to face food insecurity and child poverty.
“We will see how the situation will be in a few months when the government plan has to be drawn up. But the social deterioration will undoubtedly require some emergency measures as of March 1, 2025,” said García, who is the president of the FA’s Program Commission.
Interviewed by La Diaria, the former economy minister assured that during these years of President Luis Lacalle Pou’s government, “poverty has increased in all age groups.”
“Regarding hunger, we must guarantee food for all our children.”
García acknowledged that the current administration has generated economic growth, but inequality has risen.
